Lecture Series on the Mathematics of Deep Learning. The event will
take place from 28 February to 4 March 2022 at the Isaac Newton

An introductory lecture series by Professor Gitta Kutyniok (LMU,
Munich) on the Mathematics of Deep Learning is accompanied by a
workshop on selected topics of deep learning with lectures given by
Professors Peter Bartlett, Weinan E, Klaus Robert Muller and Rebecca
Willet. There will be the opportunity for interactive sessions and the

We would like to draw your attention to the HCM Workshop Synergies
between Data Science and PDE Analysis to be held at the University of
Bonn in Germany on 13-17 June 2022.

The current success story of data science calls for interpretable
machine learning methods. For instance, in the context of sampling,
graph-based learning or neural networks, PDE-based methods have
proven to be both efficient and apt for mathematical analysis. This
workshop brings together experts and young researchers in these two
vibrant fields and aims to create a stimulating environment for
exchanging scientific ideas and establishing new collaborations.

An application is mandatory for participation. Deadline for
applications is February 15th, 2022 (CET). We also offer some spots
for contributed talks. A small number of additional fully funded
places are available for researchers facing financial burdens, such as
researchers from developing countries.

I am pleased to announce the Conference on Random Matrix Theory and
Numerical Linear Algebra (RMT + NLA) to be held at the University of
Washington, Seattle, June 20-24, 2022. We will offer a hybrid format,
so participants may connect remotely.

The conference aims to bring together researchers from areas such as
random matrix theory, numerical linear algebra, randomized algorithms,
high-dimensional statistics, optimization and theoretical computer
science to discuss recent developments and cutting-edge techniques.

The conference will feature two tutorials/minicourses from Ioana
Dumitriu (UCSD) and Sean O'Rourke (CU Boulder). The rest of the
conference will consist of research talks and a poster session.

Artificial Intelligence for Imaging at the Department of Computer
Science at UCL. The position is funded by Learned Exascale
Computational Imaging (LEXCI) programme for the first two years with
an option of subsequent employment as a staff scientist at UCL
Advanced Research Computing (ARC) Centre. The goal of LEXCI is to
develop a new paradigm of exascale computational imaging, integrating
hybrid model and data based approaches with uncertainty quantification
at large scale and in distributed environments. During the project
lifetime the team will focus on applications to imaging from
observations of the next-generation of radio interferometric
telescopes and imaging of neuronal pathways in the human brain through
diffusion MRI. The successful candidate will be working with Dr Marta
Betcke and focus in particular on numerical methods development and
algorithmic challenges in the context of big data and large scale,
distributed hybrid architectures. They will also collaborate with
Research Software Engineers in LEXCI team on deployment on modern and
future high-performance computing infrastructure and with application
domain specialists on knowledge transfer (astronomy, medical imaging
and beyond).

This post is available to start as soon as possible but not later than
September 2022 and is funded for 24 months in the first instance with
the option of transitioning to an open-ended appointment as a staff
scientist within UCL Advanced Research Computing (ARC) Centre at the
end of this period, subject to satisfactory performance evaluation.

Training Group (RTG) "Biological Clocks on Multiple Time Scales"

the German Research Foundation from 1. April 2022 on. The RTG aims at
investigating the principles of timekeeping in living organisms,
enabling to orchestrate periodic processes with very different
frequencies ranging from infradian over circadian to ultradian
rhythms. The unique approach is to combine the expertise of
biologists, physicists, chemists, mathematicians, and engineers to
advance the understanding of biological clocks. The RTG comprises 13
projects, two of which are of a more mathematical nature: P9: Models &
simulations for new insights into physiology of clocks and ways of
adapting it (PI: Prof. Elfriede Friedmann) and P11: Model reduction
via symmetries and conservation laws for systems on multiple time
scales (PI: Prof. Werner M. Seiler). For these projects, we seek
outstanding research assistants with a master degree in mathematics or

"Nonlocal Codes" is now open!

The special issue will provide a permanent record of nonlocal codes
that are being made available to the community, including (but not
limited to) those discussed at the recent One Nonlocal World workshop
on nonlocal software. The special issue will give users of the codes a
peer-reviewed reference to cite in their own future papers. The
articles for the special issue should contain basic information about
the codes and an example problem but are not required to provide an
in-depth treatment of the method. All types of discretizations and
methods are acceptable for submission (if you're in doubt, please,
